On Tuesday, 8 September, Helena Foulkes defeated incumbent Governor Dan McKee to claim the Democratic nomination for governor. That same day, Elaine Pelino emerged as the Republican nominee for the governor's race. Also on Tuesday, Raymond McKay won the Republican primary for the U.S. Senate seat from Rhode Island. The following day, Wednesday, 9 September, Kim Ahern secured the Democratic nomination for Attorney general, and David Morales captured the Democratic mayoral nomination in Providence.
The Democratic primary for governor was decided on Tuesday, 8 September. Helena Foulkes secured the nomination, defeating incumbent Dan McKee. The party's certification of the result was completed that same day.
